63-year-old Michael Stephen Thorne of North Port died Saturday night during a traffic stop when a transfer truck slammed into the back of the police cruiser he was in on I-75. An FHP trooper also in the car was transported to Venice Regional with unspecified injuries. An investigation is ongoing.
