The Venice City Council voted yesterday to spend $995,000 to purchase a vacant office building on Tamiami Trail and the Intracoastal Waterway to provide more, if temporary, parking space for the island. The purchase is also expected to provide public access to the Legacy Trail, which previously required trespassing on the building’s property after the KMI Bridge was built. No plan or timetable currently exist to tear down the building and build a larger parking facility–only 20 spaces exist at the site now.
