Liability concerns over restoration work have slowed efforts by the Venice Area Historical Society to buy, fix up, and display a sleeper car from the 1950s that was once used by the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, which had its winter headquarters in Venice for over 30 years. The society raised more than $165,000 of the $225,000 price tag, but the Florida Railroad Museum, which owns the car in question, is now reviewing potential liability risks of performing the restoration work.
