Saraota County’s Fire Department has a new chief.

Acting fire chief Michael Regnier, a long term member of the department’s been given a conditional offer to take the job permanently. He’s been acting chief since last May. He joined the department in 1988. The Herald-Tribune reports Regnier has degrees in fire science, as well as state and national certifications. In a statement, County Administrator Tom Harmer praised Regnier involvement in day to day operations in the office and in the field, and he predicted a smooth switch from interim to permanent chief. The department has over 500 firefighters, EMTs and paramedics.
