The feds may send a lifeline to Florida lawmakers as they try reaching a budget deal.

The state says it has received a letter from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services saying it would phase out the LIP program over the next few years.

This gives the state time to fund the program that pays hospitals treating the poor and uninsured.

LIP could receive a billion dollars next year, which sits $300 million less than what the state has requested.

Lawmakers have a special session next month over the budget.
