The local tourism bureau reports that the USA BMX National Series race in Punta Gorda generated about 700-thousand dollars in direct expenditures for Charlotte County. That also includes more than 19-thousand dollars in tourist development tax and the sale of more than 15-hundred hotel rooms nights. More than 600 bike riders spent the weekend here, along with their estimates 2-thousand family members and other spectators from 30 states and 10 foreign countries.
