Sarasota County Commissioners yesterday hit the brake pedal on the privatizing and merging SCAT with Manatee County’s bus systems.

The Commission’s decided not to go futher with the proposal until they get the results of an in-house review of current bus operations, not expected to be completed until next year. Transdev Services Inc. of Illinois made the public/private partnership pitch, saying it could save both counties a combined $2.5-million/year, and provide better service by eliminating duplication. The Herald-Tribune reports Sarasota County adminsitrators say they don’t have enough information in hand to dfetermine if the plan is justified and won’t jeopardize existing services.
