The Sarasota and Manatee County Commissions are considering a proposal to merage their public transit systems and have them operated by a private company. The Herald-Tribune reports the company making the proposal is Transdev Services, Inc. of Illinois. They believe they can save taxpayers a minimum $2.5-million by eliminating duplication of services. The new system would be called SMART, “Sarasota Manatee Area Regional Transit.” Administrators in both counties have received a detailed proposal from Transdev officials.
