The State Transportation Department’s set August 3rd as the start of construction of a new interchange at University Parkway and I-75. The new $83-million interchange will be the first “diverging diamond” interchange in the state. FDOT’s set as a condition that the project be finished before the start of the World Rowing Champsionships at nearby Nathan Benderson Park. That event’s scheduled to start September 23, 2017. The Herald-Tribune reports the state’s working on a request for bids right now, and the target to start reviewing them is June. Once that happens there will be site prep work and then the start of construction. The new interchange is needed because of the development that’s been happening in the area, including the opening of the Mall at University Town Center.
