The Sarasota Sheriff’s Department’s charged an account with exploitation of the elderly. The Herald-Tribune reports 53-year old Brian Strand’s accused of stealing close to $200,000 from a 92-year old woman. Authorities say the sheriff’s department was notified last August by Sabal Palm Bank about suspicious transactions on the account of a woman in an assisted living facility. ATM transactions from 2011 to last August also showed withdrawls from SunTrust Bank. Most of the withdrawals were made at casinos. Deputies say Strand, who was the woman’s CPA, was also the succsssor of her trust. The woman’s granddaughter was contacted, and she replaced Strand as power of attorney. Strand was called in, and detectives say he admitted misappropriating money.
