FPL intends to build three new solar farms that would nearly double Florida’s solar capacity.

The company says it has found a “cost-effective” way to expand solar power, and it wants to install the systems in three places.

FPL wants to add 225 megawatts to the current 229 it has by the end of the year in Charlotte, Manatee, and DeSoto counties.

Details remain sketchy, so the company cannot provide cost estimates at this point. However, it does not anticipate a significant effect on customer rates.
