North Port’s hired its first in house city attorney. The City Commission today voted 4-1 to hire Mark Moriarty to create and lead the city’s legal department. The Herald-Tribune reports Moriarty will be paid a base salary of $138,000/year. Moriarty’s been the assistant city attorney in Fort Myers since 1996, and that city’s risk manager since 2001. Moriarty’s contract includes a 5% raise after a year on the job, a 7% city paid retirement contribution, moving expenses from Fort Myers, and three weeks vacation/year.
