FHP’s investigating how a man lost control of his car Friday night, killing a bicylist in Port Charlotte.
Troopers say 39-year old Howard Tomlin was riding his bike home from work along McGuire Avenue near Elkcam Boulevard, and 23-year old David McGovern was travelling north on Elkcam. Witnesses say McGovern passed another vehicle, lost control and went into a ditch. His car then flipped hitting Tomlin, who was on the sidewalk, knocking him into the street. He was pronounced dead at Bayfront Port Charlotte Hospital. ABC7 reports the posted speed limit in the area’s 35 mph, but witness say McGovern was travelling much faster.
