State health officials say Chikungunya, a mosquito borne disease has arrived in Florida. NBC2 reports the first diagnosed case was in Lee County earlier this week, and experts say they may know tomorrow if a Port Charlotte woman also has the disease. She believes she was bitten on a recent trip to Haiti. Chikungunya symptoms appear 3 to 7 days after you’re bitten by an infected mosquito. Symptoms include extreme joint pain, headache, fever and a rash. Health professionals say your best protection is bug spray, and a lot of it, with DEET, especially if you’re outdoors at dusk and dawn.
