Melanie Turner’s resigned from the North Port Police Department. She’s charged with sexual battery and false imprisonment for allegedly handcuffing a woman during a March house party and assaulting her. She was charged along with Ricky Urbina, another North Port officer, who committed suicide the day he was supposed to surrender to Sarasota County Sheriff’s deputies. She’s been on administrative leave without pay since early March. The Herald-Tribune reports If convicted, the 33-year old faces a maximum 15 years for the sexual battery charge and five years for the false imprisonment charge.
