In a move they say is intended to restore public confidence, the City of North Port’s asked the Center for Public Safety Management to do a review of the Police Department. The Herald-Tribune reports Chief Kevin Vespias recommended hiring an outside firm to give his department a once over. Four officers have been suspended in the last couple of months including one who’s charged with sexual battery and false imprisonment from an incident at a party in March. There’s been no explanation offered for two of the suspensions.
