Federal health officials will fund Florida hospitals and providers who serve uninsured patients to the tune of $2-billion for another year. That money was supposed to go away, with the hope that many of the low income would be able to get coverage under the Medicaid expansion of the Affordable Care Act. Florida lawmakers voted that plan down. The agreement’s a short-term fix, and health advocates are calling on lawmakers to expand Medicaid.
