Venice Police Marine Patrol pulled a boater from the water after the boater’s craft sank in the entrance to the Venice Jetties. The marine officer was responding to a Sarasota County lifeguard’s report of a boat capsizing Aug. 4 around 2:25 p.m.

At the same time the officer brought one of the boaters onboard the police boat, a passing vessel was picking up the other two passengers from the capsized boat out of the water. Six to 7-foot swells made the rescue effort more challenging. With all three boaters from the disabled craft onboard the police boat, the officer evaluated them for injuries and finding none, transported them to safe harbor. Another marine officer arrived on the scene to facilitate assistance from Venice Sea Tow to retrieve the sunk vessel and investigate the incident.
