Sarasota wants $15-million from BP to cover losses – from tourism dollars to tax money – thanks to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. City officials, who were initially wary of suing the company, decided days before the filing deadline to join dozens of Florida municipalities asking for money. The Herald-Tribune reports attorneys from the Kirk-Pinkerton firm, quickly pulled together a 77-page civil complaint, which includes allegations of fraudulent concealment, gross negligence, willful misconduct against BP and Halliburton. They also sent a notification letter to BP before last Saturday’s deadline.
