A special event to help Special Olympics:
The 11th annual Special Olympics Handicap Fishing Tournament takes place April 11. It is sponsored by the Venice Police Department Marine Unit. Around 25 Special Olympic athletes will join local boat captains, who donate their time and boats, for a day of fun and fishing. This is the kick-off event for the annual Sharks Tooth Festival, the proceeds of which benefit the Special Olympics. Officer Paul Joyce, who organizes the event, says he expects about 70 participants – athletes, boat captains and volunteers – for the event.
