(Englewood) The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Juvenile Operations Unit conducted a business alcohol compliance check Tuesday afternoon on eight Englewood area businesses that resulted in a clerk being arrested. The businesses checked were on McCall Road (S.R. 776), North Beach Road, Placida Road, San Casa Drive, and the South Access Road.
At 1:05 p.m. an Investigative Aide under 21 purchased four Loko Margarita beverages at the BP station, 4363 South Access Road. Store clerk Henry Elbeth Beinert Jr., 65, 3 Golfview Terrace, Rotonda West, sold the items without asking for identification. Beinert was arrested and charged with Sale of Alcohol to a Person Under 21. He was taken to the Charlotte County Jail and posted a $500 bond.
The CCSO Juvenile Unit will continue unannounced checks for alcohol compliance at various locations around the Charlotte County. Also, “Operation Dry Spring” continues through April 7 in conjunction with spring break schedules of most public and private schools. Florida and out of state students take a timeout from their studies to enjoy their first break of the semester. Spring break is also the time when some of these students, the majority of them are under 21 years old; choose to drink alcohol and experiment with illegal drugs.
Sheriff Bill Prummell said, “Our units have beefed up patrols on our main beach areas from Englewood to Boca Grande and in the Charlotte Harbor area. Additional patrols are checking places where youth hang out in Charlotte County. Underage drinking, smoking, including smoking of marijuana and synthetic marijuana are being targeted.”
