It’s a trend being seen nationwide in for-profit hospitals and health care systems, and it’s come to our area. Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte started laying off 24-people last month. A hospital spokesperson tells the Englewood Sun it’s to “better align the organization with existing hospital activity levels.” None of the layoffs involved positions in direct patient care.
