An alert for ATM users: watch for skimmers on the debit card reader on the machine.
Charlotte County detectives say two men were seen on surveillance video January 18 at Publix in Charlotte Harbor; one put a skimmer device on the ATM at 7:18 a.m, and took it off at 9:04 a.m. One woman reported her bank account had been charged twice for over $800. Several other people used the machine during that time and have reported fraudulent transactions. ECU detectives are working with North Port Police as the same skimming device may have been used in there, too.
