A Port Charlotte man, whose 3-year-old son shot himself in the head with his father’s gun, is now facing a criminal charge in the death. 24-year-old Christopher Davis turned himself in at the Charlotte County Jail Thursday morning. He’s charged with Culpable Negligence, a third degree felony. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s office says Davis left the gun unsecured and within easy access of the little boy in his home. The boy shot himself on November 18th. Charlotte County EMS took him to Peace River Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff says “Citizens do have the Constitutional right to own firearms, but, if they are going to own a firearm, they must take responsibility for its security.”
