Renewed home construction in North Port has revived dormant plans for a new Publix supermarket.

Construction on the Lakeland-based chain’s planned store at U.S. 41 and West Villages Parkway will start in about a year. Publix spokeswoman Shannon Patten says supermarket, which is expected to open in late 2014, will bring an estimated 150 jobs. North Port economic development manager Allan Lane says Publix has considered building on the vacant site since at least 2008, but delayed those plans when the economy slid into recession.
