Elections supervisors in Sarasota Manatee, Collier Counties and across the state are warning of a growing scam involving phony letters appearing to come from their offices. The letters tell voters they have been identified as potentially ineligible to vote and must return a form within 15 days containing personal identifying information or be removed from the rolls. They also threaten in boldface type that non-registered voters who cast ballots may be arrested and jailed. The letters have turned up in at least 23 Florida counties. Elections supervisors are asking those who have gotten the letters to save them with the envelope and report the issue to the local elections office or to the state voter fraud hotline at 877-868-3737.
