The family of a woman who died in the medical wing of the Sarasota County Jail this week says it plans to sue the county. They say that jail staff ignored complaints about health issues by 47-year-old prisoner Karen Ibarra, who died at the jail on Wednesday. Deputies, though, say Ibarra was refusing help and wouldn’t take her meds or eat for several days. That, they say, is why she was in the jail’s medical wing: in order to encourage her to take food and medications. No outward cause for Ibarra’s death has been determined.
