Authorities are warning local residents about a new scam. A group identifying itself as Community Connect is soliciting local businesses for a community calendar. The group is also saying that they represent the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce. According to investigators, the scammers are taking orders and accepting payment in the form of a check and cashing the checks immediately at area check cashing stores.
