Venice’s electric-vehicle chargers have been bagged until the city can figure out how to charge for the electricity. Unlike Sarasota, which offers free charges in its downtown municipal garage, Venice plans to charge for the electric fill up. When Sarasota county’s charging stations come online, they, too will cost. It’ll cost about $1.50 an hour to charge up — but the problem that’s holding thing up is figuring out just how to bill customers. It’ll be by credit card, but the city couldn’t get the back-end systems online in time to meet a grant requirement to have the stations installed by the end of March. No word yet when the systems will be up.
