Sarasota’s public housing agency could be in trouble.

That’s because the feds, with front the funds for the low income housing, and with budgets what they are, there could be a more than one million dollar cut in the local agency’s money. But officials with the Sarasota Housing Authority say they’re not alone. The cuts will be deep, and be to agencies all over the country. The Department of Housing and Urban Development will cut more than eight hundred million dollars and start with local housing authorities that have some cash reserves. So the two million plus that the Sarasota agency got last year will be cut to about 970 thousand dollars to manage more than 400 units.
