A suspect in custody today in a string of so-called “distraction burglaries” in Punta Gorda. Police say they arrested 48-year-old Rocky Thompson of Oakland Park and that other arrests may be in the offing. A “distraction burglary” typically involves someone coming to your door and distracting your attention while an accomplice enters the house to steal valuables. Punta Gorda investigators have been looking into several “distraction burglaries” that occurred in Punta Gorda Isles and in the Historic District throughout the last 13 months. The most recent took place last Thursday on Caicos Drive.
