With this weekend’s New Year’s celebrations ready to roll, Sun Coast law enforcement says it will be out in force to try to put a clamp on drunk driving. Sheriff’s deputies in Charlotte and Sarasota Counties will be operating D-U-I checkpoints at various locations throughout the weekend. The Florida Highway Patrol already announcing it’s setting up a checkpoint in the 7900 block of U.S. 41 in South Sarasota on New Year’s Eve. The message officers stress is that drunk driving is deadly and that if you drive hammered, you’re going to get nailed.
