An 18-year-old pregnant woman has died after being struck by a car on a Sarasota street. State troopers say Crystal Sievert was trying to cross Swift Road near Hope Street when she was hit by a car driven by 69-year-old Joe Variot of Sarasota. Sievert died at the scene. Officers say Variot was not at fault in the accident but that he was arrested anyway — for driving under the influence.
