The first flight control tower at the Punta Gorda Airport will soon be staffed.
And that staff will be paid by the FAA — or the Federal Aviation Administration. The executive director of the Charlotte County Airport Authority, Gary Quill said they expect the tower to go live in about six weeks now that they have funding secured to pay those who will guide the aircraft as they take off and land at the airport. Quill said the authority built the tower with four million dollars of federal, state and local funds, but the FAA is paying tower staffers.
