A Fort Myers man is in jail in Charlotte County after an alleged theft.

CCSO said they busted 24 year old Virgil Raymond Williams Jr., charging him with
Grand Theft and Trespassing after he allegedly stole three thousand dollars worth of metal items from a mining pit in South Charlotte County near the Lee County line. Investigators said around 3 a.m. Wednesday, a deputy parked on Little farm road near State Road 31 saw a pick up being driven with its lights off. When the deputy noticed the licenses tag covered, he made a traffic stop. That’s when he saw machined metal in the bed of the truck. Williams was the driver, who said he was looking for his dog. The sheriff’s department called Earth Source Mine pit officials and they wanted to press charges, so Williams was arrested, taken to the Charlotte County Jail where he posted a $3,000 bond and was released. Williams said he needed the money from selling the metal for child support.
