PUNTA GORDA) Charlotte County Sheriff’s Narcotics detectives arrested a foot-ankle-vein doctor after he turned himself in at the Charlotte County Jail this afternoon on two felony charges of Obtaining Oxycodone by Fraud. Arrested was Dr. Boyd Allen Robinson, 44, 515 Dona Drive, Nokomis.
The investigation began when Sarasota County Sheriff’s detectives contacted CCSO and advise Dr. Robinson was arrested in their county last August for obtaining controlled substances by fraud. The SCSO detective said during their investigation they learned Dr. Robinson also obtained fraudulent prescriptions in Charlotte County.
The CCSO Narcotics detective’s investigation discovered Dr. Robinson passed two fraudulent prescriptions for Oxycodone at the Englewood Pharmacy, 900 Pine Street in Englewood in June and July this year. They also discovered he obtained Oxycodone six times from the Publix Pharmacy, 1500 Placida Road in Englewood, between January and July of this year. In a photo lineup, employees of both pharmacies picked out Dr. Robinson as the doctor who obtained Oxycodone prescriptions. Security video also shows Dr. Robinson sometimes wore blue scrubs to drop off and pick up the pills. Dr. Robinson told pharmacists he needed some pain meds for himself; he did not give an insurance card and paid cash instead.
Dr. Robinson had worked for a doctor’s office in Sarasota County, and also in the 17000 block of Murdock Circle in Port Charlotte. When detectives asked the doctor if he had a patient relationship with Dr. Robinson he said no medical file exists. The doctor in a sworn written statement said he did not write any narcotics prescriptions for Dr. Robinson and none of the eight prescriptions were signed by him.
Dr. Robinson remains in the Charlotte County Jail on $5,000 bond at this time.
