Charlotte County Sheriff’s detectives continue their investigation into a safe that was stolen from a Raceway gas station on U.S.17 East of Punta Gorda after burglars smashed a hole in the rear of the cement block building. The theft was discovered Sunday morning as the gas station was opening. Employees discovered the safe missing and a large hole in the men’s bathroom wall. Detectives said the hole was made by the burglars using a section of concrete curbing; it was located in brush behind the building. The small black floor safe was approximately 2 by 2 feet with a round keypad on the door. Inside was an undetermined amount of cash and lottery tickets.
