A woman who said she thought she had struck an animal with her car has now turned herself in in a hit-and-run fatality. Police say 41-year-old Stephanie Saputo told them she didn’t realize until later that she had been the driver who ran down 56-year-old Luther Whitaker on the night of March first, 2010. Luther, who was disabled, was crossing the street slowly at the time, using a cane. He died at the scene.
