MAN CHARGED WITH INJURING A CANINE

A PARISH MAN WAS ARRESTED LATE THURSDAY NIGHT AFTER HE FOUGHT WITH SARASOTA COUNTY DEPUTIES WHO TRIED TO PULL HIM OVER ON SEVERAL TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS.  DEPUTIES ATTEMPTED A TRAFFIC STOP ON LAUREL ROAD AND US 41 JUST BEFORE 11PM THURSDAY NIGHT, BUT THE DRIVER, 38 YEAR OLD JASON REAGAN, SPED OFF.  HE STOPPED A FEW BLOCKS DOWN THE ROAD AND JUMPED INTO A LAKE, FOLLOWED BY CANINE ZUUL.  THE DOG TRIED TO PULL REAGAN BY THE WRIST, BUT REAGAN HELD THE DOG’S HEAD UNDER WATER FOR ABOUT TEN SECONDS AND PUCHED HIM SEVERAL TIMES.  WHEN ZUUL WENT TO REAGAN’S LEG, DEPUTIES WERE ABLE TO PULL HIM FROM THE LAKE, BUT HE KEPT FIGHTING, KICKING, AND PUNCHING DEPUTIES UNTIL HE WAS TASED.  REAGAN WAS TAKEN TO VENICE REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER FOR TREATMENT OF THE INJURIES INFLICTED BY ZUUL.  ONCE HE WAS RELEASED, HE FACED NUMEROUS CHARGES INCLUDING TWO COUNTS OF BATTERY ON A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER AND ONE COUNT OF INJURING A POLICE DOG.  HE IS BEING HELD WITHOUT BOND IN THE SARASOTA COUNTY JAIL.
