STAUB SUDDENLY ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

SARASOTA COUNTY COMMISSIONER SHANNON STAUB SHOCKED THOSE IN ATTENDANCE AT WEDNESDAY’S COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING WITH THE ANNOUNCEMENT THAT SHE WILL BE RETIRING FROM THE COMMISSION AT THE ENDL OF THE YEAR.  STAUB IS IN HER FOURTH TERM AS COMMISSIONER AND HAS BEEN ON THE BOARD FOR 14 YEARS.  SHE BECAME EMOTIONAL WHEN REFLECTING ON THOSE SHE WILL BE LEAVING, INCLUDING HER STAFF AND HER CONSTITUATES.  THE 64 YEAR OLD STAUB, WHO REPRESENTS DISTRICT 3 WHICH INCLUDES NORTH PORT, SOUTH VENICE, AND ENGLEWOOD, SAID SHE WOULD LIKE TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH HER SON, WHO JUST MOVED FROM TEXAS TO NORTH CAROLINA. WHEN SHE STEPS DOWN AT THE END OF THE YEAR, SHE WILL HAVE ALMOST TWO YEARS LEFT ON HER CURRENT TERM.  GOVERNOR CHARLIE CRIST WILL BEGIN TO TAKE APPLICATIONS FOR HER REPLACEMENT AND WILL APPOINT THAT PERSON IN THE COMING MONTHS.
